Describe yourself as an artist?

As an artist, I try to learn and absorb everything in my surrounding. I welcome good and bad criticism because it will only help me better myself in my craft.

What made you want to become a DJ/Producer? What drives your passion for music and performing?

My love for music made me want to DJ. I would rather listen to music for hours then watch TV/Movies. When I first heard mixes on the radio, I loved hearing the transitions from song to song that I wanted to create my own. In the summer of 2009, I started to save my money to buy my own equipment. I started off with an American Audio combo mixer and old cheap laptop speakers. After work or before school, I would practice beat matching for hours and hours. It was a lot of suffering, but it was worth it.

I produce a little bit but I’m still learning.

How long have you been performing and how did it all start?

Back in 2012, Eventvibe/Amplified Access was looking for DJ’s. I gave them my info (mixcloud, soundcloud) and cover letter. I got a call a week later and was asked to play at a bar near SDSU. So I gave it a shot, and they liked what they heard. I then got booked to play a show at the House of Blues for them a month later. I still promote and support Amplified Access today.

In December 2012, during the Zed’s Dead show, DJ’s Gum-b and Proof liked what they heard from my set and wanted me to play at their free Monday night bass events at the AC Lounge. So a couple months later, I played there and met the rest of the crew. I started promoting for OG later in 2013 and still going.

Favorite Genres/Sub Genres/Influences?

I like many genre of music. I grew up listening to hip hop, like Mobb Deep, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Immortal Technique, Cunninlynguists, Tonedeff, Atmosphere and more. My mom got me into dance/electronic music. She always bought CDs and played them at home or during car rides to school. I didn’t know the artists at the time, but I enjoyed the up-tempo bpm. I enjoy all kinds of electronic music genres but my favorite genres are dubstep and drum&bass. I enjoy riddim/wonky dubstep like Coffi, Badklaat, Shiverz, Requake to deep dubstep tunes from Skream, Kromestar, Goth-Trad, Coki… Too many artists to name. I love liquid dnb from Lenzman, Komatic, Technicolour, Makoto, Logistics, Netsky, Fred V & Grafix, etc and jump up dnb from Original Sin, Taxman, Sub Zero, Macky Gee, etc.
Most memorable or notable performances?

– The Zomboy show in 2013 was a fun one because I got to b2b with my buddies Mike, Tim, and David. The turn out that night was crazy and the crowd was going wild from beginning to end. It was also my first time on main stage.

Basic info on SnowmanS:

I was born in San Diego. I took one synthesizer class and two piano classes in college to help me read sheet music instead of play by ear. I rep Amplified Access and Organized Grime.
